Acacia rubricola is a member of the ‘ A. johnsonii group’. It is closely related to A. johnsonii and duplicates have been distributed under that name. It differs however in having longer, less pubescent, somewhat resinous phyllodes with quite conspicuous yellow translucent midnerves and branchlets with shorter hairs, and narrower pods.
