Acacia leptoneura Benth., London J. Bot . 1: 341 (1842)
Shrub (?). Branchlets terete, strigose with straight, closely appressed hairs, glabrescent. Stipules subpersistent. Phyllodes shallowly to strongly incurved or sigmoid, terete to subterete, 3–7.5 cm long, c. 1 mm diam., acute with shallowly recurved to uncinate apex, coriaceous, glabrous except appressed-puberulous at base, striate by 16 slightly raised, close nerves; gland c. 4 mm above pulvinus; pulvinus smooth, flared at base. Inflorescences simple, 1 or 2 per axil; peduncles 4–6 mm long, sparingly appressed-puberulous; heads globular, c. 5 mm diam., 20–30-flowered; bracteoles linear to fusiform. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free, linear-spathulate. Pods and seeds not seen.
Known only from the type collection and from Drummond 303 (or 3: 303) at BH, K, MEL, NY, OXF, P and PERTH), both from an undefined locality in south-western W.A.
In all respects very similar to A. subflexuosa Maiden, which has 8-nerved phyllodes. It is known only from the type collection and may no longer exist in nature. See R.S.Cowan & B.R.Maslin, Nuytsia 12: 425–426 (1999), for further discussion.
The precise identity of A. leptoneura var. pungens Meisn. cannot be determined because the only material is sterile; however, it displays a number of characteristics of A. acellerata and may indeed represent that species. It was referred, dubiously, by G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. 2: 399 (1864), to A. aciphylla .
