Latz’s Wattle
Shrub or tree 3–7 m high. Branchlets glabrous to appressed-puberulous. Phyllodes narrowly linear to linear-oblanceolate, mostly very shallowly incurved, 5–10 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, with an acute to short-acuminate and straight to uncinate apex, coriaceous, khaki green to greyish green, glabrous to sparsely appressed-puberulous, with numerous closely parallel, obscure nerves. Inflorescences 2–5-headed racemes; raceme axes 1.5–5 mm long, appressed-puberulous; peduncles 5–9 mm long, puberulous; heads globular, 4 mm diam., 13–18-flowered, resinous. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free. Pods linear, flat except slightly raised over and constricted between seeds, to 15 cm long, 5–6 mm wide, coriaceous, distinctly reticulate, glabrous. Seeds longitudinal, oblong, 5.5 mm long, dull, brown-black; funicle gradually enlarged towards minute, apical aril.
Known only from Bacon Ra. and Beddome Ra., southern N.T. and S.A near the N.T. border. Grows in skeletal alkaline soil in gullies and rocky slopes on low hills; locally dominant in tall open shrubland or with Acacia aneura .
Seems allied to A. calcicola which is most readily distinguished by its flower-heads with more flowers and by woody and moniliform pods.
