Acacia islana Pedley, Austrobaileya 1: 249 (1980)
Spindly, open, glabrous, slightly resinous shrub 2–4 m high. Branchlets tuberculate-ribbed. Phyllodes scattered, some clustered in twos or threes, patent to inclined, slender, incurved, terete to subterete, drying with a longitudinal groove on each face along the midline, 1–2 cm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, abruptly constricted to a pulvinus c. 0.2 mm long, excentrically mucronulate to rostellate, green, nerveless; gland minute, c. 0.5 mm above pulvinus. Inflorescences simple, 1 per axil; peduncles 7–13 mm long, the base ebracteate; heads globular, 20–30-flowered, light golden. Flowers 5-merous; sepals 2/3–4/5-united. Pods linear, to 6 cm long, 3–4 mm wide, firmly chartaceous. Seeds longitudinal, oblong, 4–4.5 mm long; aril oblique.
Restricted to the Isla Gorge area (c 50 km SSW of Theodore), Qld. Grows in Eucalyptus woodland on shallow, stony soil over sandstone.
A member of the ‘ A. johnsonii group’ and most closely related to A. burbidgeae which has sparsely to moderately hairy branchlets and longer, subterete phyllodes. Sometimes sympatric with A. hockingsii , another member of the group restricted to the Isla Gorge area.
