Acacia cana Maiden, J. & Proc. Roy. Soc. New South Wales 53: v, errata (1920)

Broad-leaved Nealie , Cabbage-tree Wattle , Boree

Shrub or tree to 6 m high with dense, spreading crown. Branchlets densely silvery appressed-puberulous. Phyllodes erect, linear to linear-elliptic, straight, mostly 5–13 cm long and 2–4 mm wide, acuminate, pungent, rigid, densely silvery appressed-puberulous but hairs confined to between nerves with age, with numerous closely parallel, indistinct nerves. Inflorescences normally 2–5-headed racemes; raceme axes 1–6 mm long; peduncles 5–12 mm long, appressed-puberulous, the hairs golden ageing silvery; heads globular, 4.5 mm diam., 25–30-flowered, golden. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free to 1/2-united. Pods linear, constricted between and slightly raised over seeds, to 10 cm long, 4–8 mm wide, coriaceous to chartaceous, longitudinally reticulate, densely appressed-puberulous. Seeds longitudinal.

Disjunct, occurring in the Adavale area, southern central Qld and on the western plains of N.S.W. west of Enngonia and N of Wilcannia. Grows along watercourses on gibber plains and on sandhills as pure stands of scattered trees and in mixed woodland.

As discussed by L.Pedley, Austrobaileya 1: 341–343 (1981), A. tephrina was formerly included within the concept of A. cana in Qld.
