Notes. Ross (1979: 43) comments: "Sim's description and plate indicate that the prickles were scattered along the stem as in A. ataxacantha; in A. caffra the prickles are in pairs near the nodes. Sim's description of the pubescence, pod, growth. form and distribution suggest that he was recognizing in var. rupestris the tree growth form of A. ataxacantha.".
