Acacia leioderma Maslin, Nuytsia 1: 442; 443, fig. 17 & 488, map 7 (1975)
Shrub 0.5- 2 m high. Branchlets prominently ribbed, commonly red to brown, glabrous. Stipules 2.5- 4 mm long. Pinnae mostly 2 pairs, 3- 4 mm long (proximal pinnae), 10- 30 mm long (distal pinnae); petiole 1- 2 mm long; rachis 3- 10 mm long, prominently ribbed adaxially; pinnules 2 pairs (proximal pinnae), 4- 10 pairs (distal pinnae), narrowly oblong, 5- 12 mm long, 1.5- 5 mm wide, flat or slightly recurved, green, glabrous; gland on rachis at base of pinnae, sessile, prominent, additional smaller glands normally on distal pinna-rachae at base of uppermost 1- 2 pairs of pinnules. Inflorescences simple, 1- 3 per axil; peduncles 10- 20 mm long, glabrous; heads globular, large, 28- 35-flowered, light golden. Flowers 5-merous; calyx often dark brown, the sepals 5/6-united; petals 1-nerved. Pods 3- 4 cm long, 6- 8 mm wide, glabrous. Seeds transverse, oblong to elliptic, 2- 3 mm long.
Occurs from the Mount Barker- Albany area E to Fitzgerald R. Natl Park, south-western W.A. Favours sandy loam near watercourses in forest, also grows on laterite, mostly in coastal heath, scrub and shrubland.
A member of the ‘ Acacia browniana group’ most closely related to A. empelioclada . Specimens from the eastern extremity of the range, i.e. Fitzgerald R. Natl Park, may ultimately prove to be glabrous variants of A. empelioclada . See also A. nigricans .
