Wattle Day Celebrations

1 September is officially declared Wattle Day in Australia and this year (2004) a number of organisations around the country are planning special events to mark the occasion.

  • Between 28 August and 3 September The Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra will be presenting a series of public lectures and other activities to celebrate 'Wattle Week'. The program of events may be viewed by visiting the Gardens website.

  • The Shire of Dalwallinu in Western Australia will be conducting their 10th Annual Wattle Week Festival between 11 - 18 September. Events this year will include wildflower tours and displays, a bush cuisine luncheon and more. The Dalwallinu Shire is a co-sponsor of this World Wide Wattle website.

  • Hurstbridge, a charming small, semi-rural township located on the northern fringe of Melbourne, has revived the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival and a range of events are planned for Sunday 5 September.

The conservation and utilisation potential of Australian dryland Acacias (Held in Dalwallinu, 13-14 July 2001)

This Symposiium covered a wide range of applied subjects relevant to the utilisation potential of Australian dryland acacias. The proceedings of this Symposium have now been published as an issue of the Department of Conservation and Land Management’s journal, Conservation Science of Western Australia (see Recent publications below)

Legumes Down Under. Fourth International Legume Conference (Held in Canberra, 2-6 July 2001)

This Conference provided the opportunity for researchers in various disciplines to present results of recent studies on this important plant family. A number of Acacia papers were presented and these have now been published is a Special Issue of Australian Systematic Botany (see Recent publications below).
